How can advocacy help?...

Zahar's story

Nobody took anything I was saying seriously until I had her even though I had been telling them things for years. They would say yes yes and then do nothing. My social worker kept changing and sometimes I didn’t even know if I even had a social worker. It got to the point where everything was on top of me and it was affecting my mental health. Since I have had my advocate supporting me people at social services have sat up and starting taking notice. Things have been done already, things I have been raising for ages and I finally feel I am being listened to. She comes to my meetings and always does what she says she will do.

I felt I was at breaking point. I don’t know what I would have done without her and I am much better at speaking up and knowing about my rights and entitlements now. And if things get stuck or I am worried I just call her. She is so easy to talk to and she really listens. I can tell her anything and I feel better because she shows me respect. I would like to say thank you to my advocate, she always has time for me and is an amazing person.
